Forum on Corruption and Development
How Anti-Corruption Can be Integrated into Development Measures to Ensure Sustainable Development and Inclusive Growth
On May 30, 2013, the Hills Program, in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Office of the Ombudsman, held a forum on “Corruption and Development – How Anti-Corruption Can Be Integrated into Development Measures to Ensure Sustainable Development and Inclusive Growth” at the Asian Institute of Management. The forum brought together government officials, business leaders, civil society representatives, and development partners as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Office of the Ombudsman.
Atty. Angela Garcia, Executive Director of AIM Hills Program, and Dr. Joachim Heidorn, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of the Germany, gave the welcome remarks. Mr. Robert Kressirer, Regional Director of GIZ Philippines and Pacific, gave the introduction. Honorable Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales delivered the keynote address entitled “Corruption and Anti-Corruption Efforts in the Philippines – 25 Years of the Office of the Ombudsman”.
The conference included two panel discussions. The first addressed “Anti-Corruption and Integrity – A Government and Development Partners’ Perspective”. The panel members were Ombudsman Morales, Secretary Florencio B. Abad of the Department of Budget and Management; Dr. Stefanie Teggemann, Head of Anti-Corruption and Integrity Program at GIZ; and Mr. Toshihiro Tanaka, Country Director of UNDP. Mr. Coco Alcuaz, head of Business News ABS CBN, moderated the discussion.
The second panel discussion addressed “Anti-Corruption and Integrity – A Civil Society and Business Perspective”. The panel members included Mr. Peter Conze, Co-founder of Transparency International; Mr. Ramon R. del Rosario Jr., Chairman of the Makati Business Club ; and Mr. Guillermo M. Luz, Co-Chair of National Competitiveness Council. The moderator for the second panel was Dr. Federico Macaranas, professor at AIM.
