Launching of the AIM Research Folio on Devolution and Governance
On June 17, 2015, the AIM Hills Program on Governance in cooperation with the AIM Office of Research and Publications launched the Research Folio on Devolution and Governance at the Lopez Gallery in AIM.
The launching gathered key representatives from various government agencies, local government units, non-government organizations and the academe. Among them are Cong. Monique Yazmin Q. Lagdameo, Vice-Chairperson of the House Committee on Local Government and Jeremy Nishimori, Chief of Staff of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability. President Steven J. Dekrey was also in attendance. Undersecretary Corazon T. Jimenez, General Manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority delivered the keynote speech; Dean Jikyeong Kang delivered the welcoming remarks and Prof. Francisco L. Roman presented the folio to the participants.
Through the publication and its launching, the Center aims to encourage more multi-sectoral dialogues that could genuinely spring effective local autonomy and collective action in both theory and practice.
The Research Folio, featuring cases written by Prof. Francisco L. Roman and other scholars, highlights the Philippine experience on decentralization. It includes cases that discuss selected key issues and innovations on Philippine devolution and governance such as local urban governance, citizen participation and the utilization of the internal revenue allotment. Furthermore, it presents the importance of collective action in governance.
